Blog post 1: Technology in Schools

I have not had much experience with AI in my student career as it is still a fairly new concept to

myself and to the rest of the world. I have tried ChatGPT a few times in the last few years to help

me with any questions that the internet cannot provide me and I have used it to provide me

with information quicker than a google search. I have found that AI helps a person to get research

done in a quicker fashion.

Educational technologies that I have noticed in my third year practicum placement is a smart

board in every classroom, and a large amount of Ipads that can be signed out by separate

classes. Since I have only been there for one week, I have not noticed any other technologies

being used in my practicum placement.

A burning question that I have about the use of digital technologies in K-9 education is how do

certain technologies provide an advantage in some schools compared to other schools? since

schools differ greatly in the amount of funding they receive, some schools may be providing

a large amount of technology that can help benefit student learning while other schools that may

receive less funding cannot provide their students with helpful technology which therefore

hinders their learning compared to schools with a variety of technology and ultimately creates an

educational disparity.

This question is important to me because I have learned throughout my educational career and

being in a larger city that schools are vastly different and have many differing needs depending on

the neighbourhood that the school is in, the demographic of students that the schools house, and

the amount of funding that a school receives. all of these aspects of a school can determine the

difference between a high quality education and a low quality education. I think that it is important

for all students to receive an equal education no matter what school they go to.
